Teacher of the Year

A little girl born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1979 inherited not only her mother’s personality and style but grew to become a third generation educator who possessed a love for children and passion for instilling knowledge in our youth to make all things possible. I am proud to be a Clayton County Public School graduate. I attended 5th grade at West Clayton Elementary, 6th – 8th grades at North Clayton Middle, and my 9th-12th grades at Lovejoy High School. In 2001, I was a nervous but excited West Georgia graduate where I received my bachelor’s degree in Early Education on a December Saturday and walked into my second grade classroom on Monday. It was an honor to be named Teacher of the Month my second month of teaching for being able to step in right away and begin teaching students who’d been viewed as unreachable. After teaching second grade for six years, I was given the opportunity to become an EIP teacher and work with students who perform below grade level in reading and math. This motivated me to obtain my Master’s degree in Early Childhood to continue learning new and innovative strategies on educating and reaching my students in 2011. Once becoming a lead mentor and math instructor in 2016, I was even more inspired to obtain a coaching endorsement in 2017 to truly encourage and motivate teachers new to their craft. This in turn would build lasting relationships and promote positive learning environments for their classrooms. My pedagogy for education is and will always be, all students are capable of reaching their own defined greatness. As educators, we must help each student identify that greatness that lies deep inside waiting to be unveiled.
