Ms. Washington-Riles' Class

Dear Families,

We would like to welcome you to the 2019-2020 Pre-Kindergarten school year. I am certain with this being your child’s first experience with school, there will be many questions about what to expect.  Below, you will find about your child’s teacher, and our class expectations (the B.E.E. Folder and rules).

I would like to take a few moments to introduce myself. My name is LaToya Riles and I will be your child's teacher this school year. This is my 16th year teaching, my 3rd year at McGarrah Elementary. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. As an educator I value my job and the opportunity that I will have to teach your child the requirements he/she will need to complete by the end of this school year successfully. Your child’s success in my classroom is my number one priority. I am looking forward to this year and what we can do together to help your children learn and grow.

Class Expectations:

Your child will be bringing home a B.E.E. Folder. The B.E.E. (Bring Everything Everyday) Folder is a way that we can communicate with one another and needs to come to school every day.  It also teaches the students responsibility.

Our classroom rules are pretty basic and easy to remember.

1.      Listen to our teacher.

2.      Share our toys.

3.      Use our walking feet.

4.      Shake hands, no hitting.

Since this is the first time that many students have had to interact with other children for an extensive amount of time, these rules will be modeled.  The students will also be given different, but safe ways to solve problems that may arise.  If an issue/problem arises in which the child is not willing to talk about it, he or she will be given some space and time to think about it and then a teacher will try to help the child solve the problem.  If the child is not willing to take care of the issue or continues to have difficulty, the parent will be contacted either by phone, email, or note so that you are aware of the situation.

Materials Needed for School:

-   A Standard Size backpack (NO SMALL BOOKBAGS)

-   A change of clothes in a labeled Zip lock bag in case of an accident

-   A CRIB SHEET (theses are sheets used for a baby bed) and a medium towel/blanket

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at (770 -968-2910) or ([email protected]).

Sincerely,

LaToya Washington-Riles
